Freezer Essentials

Having a freezer stocked with the essentials makes it easy to cook any night of the week, without having to hit the grocery store first. People have shied away from frozen veggies thinking they just aren’t fresh or lack nutrients, of course freshly picked is best, but not always available. The truth is frozen fruit and veggies are frozen as soon as they’re picked, so they are in fact at their freshest. You can also buy frozen organic as well. It definitely helps to make quick meals, like soups or casseroles, when you havent had time to shop. If you keep your freezer full with these items you will always be moments away from a home cooked meal.

These are my must haves:

  1. Peas
  2. Corn
  3. Spinach
  4. Mirepoix (diced Onions, Carrots, Celery mixed together)
  5. Butternut Squash (cubed)
  6. Mushrooms
  7. Puff Pastry Dough
  8. Pizza Dough
  9. Pita Bread (see 10 min Pita Pizza Recipe)
  10. Strawberries
  11. Blueberries
  12. Sliced Bananas
  13. Dark Chocolate Chips
  14. Fish Pie Mix (usually you can buy this in the freezer section- its just pieces of frozen fish that you would use to make fish pies or fish cakes)
  15. Fresh herbs, chopped and frozen (parsley, basil, cilantro etc)
